Leader Lab - Distinct Suffering

This was my Leader Lab sermon from November 10, 2013.

It was centered on Psalm 42: Why Are You Cast Down, O My Soul?

Why Are You Cast Down, O My Soul?

To the choirmaster. A Maskil1 of sthe Sons of Korah.

42 tAs a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
uMy soul thirsts for God,
for vthe living God.
When shall I come and wappear before God?2
xMy tears have been my food
day and night,
ywhile they say to me all the day long,
“Where is your God?”
These things I remember,
as I zpour out my soul:
ahow I would go bwith the throng
and lead them in procession to the house of God
with glad shouts and songs of praise,
ca multitude keeping festival.

dWhy are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you ein turmoil within me?
fHope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation3 and my God.

My soul is cast down within me;
therefore I gremember you
hfrom the land of Jordan and of iHermon,
from Mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep
at the roar of your waterfalls;
jall your breakers and your kwaves
have gone over me.
By day the Lord lcommands his steadfast love,
and at mnight his song is with me,
a prayer to the God of my life.
I say to God, nmy rock:
“Why have you forgotten me?
oWhy do I go mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy?”
10 As with a deadly wound in my bones,
my adversaries taunt me,
pwhile they say to me all the day long,
“Where is your God?”

11 qWhy are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.

Men's Breakfast Photos

Last night Ali wrote this on the board for us, and I sincerely appreciated it because my handwriting is not as fancy!

Josh spoke on the importance and essential aspects of Fight Clubs. He spoke out of Romans 6, which was an amazing opportunity to look at what Jesus has done for us. We were dead in our sin, but Jesus made us alive.

Josh also made sure to address the wrong ways to fight during the sanctification process of any Christian. He made the distinction between justification and sanctification in a way that helped us understand how amazing God's grace is and how are to respond to His saving grace.

We had over forty people there today! I hope that each and every one of them learned something about Fight Clubs, and I hope that they got closer to each other in the process.

Eric led the discussion by asking Josh some questions from the men in the audience. Eric has been a great discussion leader in the intern meetings on Tuesday mornings, and he did a great job today in leading the discussion.

As we left for the day we all prayed that we are fighting for the right things and for God to show us when we are not fighting well. God has been gracious with us all and we desire to see His grace as we confess our sin, turn towards God, and lead our families to a deeper relationship with God.
